Montreal, QC
Hybrid (2-3 days a week in office)
About the Role
We are looking for a Human Resources Business Partner to be the primary HR presence at our Montreal location. This role supports employees on-site while working closely with the Head of HR, who is based in Halifax.
You will handle day-to-day HR matters locally and partner with leadership on people-related decisions. You will also be supported by an HR Generalist and external partners for administration and specialized HR needs.
This role is ideal for someone comfortable working independently, while staying closely connected to a broader HR team.
Responsibilities
On-Site HR Leadership
- Serve as the main HR contact for employees and managers at the Montreal location
- Provide practical HR guidance and resolve issues as they arise
- Represent HR on-site and ensure a consistent employee experience
Support to Managers & Teams
- Coach managers on performance management, employee relations, and team development
- Support hiring, onboarding, and employee transitions
- Help managers apply policies clearly and consistently
Employee Relations
- Handle employee concerns with professionalism, discretion, and fairness
- Lead or support workplace investigations when required
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, and compliant work environment
Partnership with Head of HR & HR Team
- Work closely with the Head of HR in Halifax to align local HR practices with company-wide direction
- Share insights from the Montreal site and support broader HR initiatives
- Partner with an HR Generalist for HR administration, reporting, and program support
External Partners
- Coordinate with external vendors such as payroll, benefits providers, recruiters, and legal advisors, although admin of these functions lies with HR coordinator.
- Ensure services meet business needs and Quebec employment requirements
HR Programs & Compliance
- Support performance review cycles and compensation processes
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation
- Ensure compliance with Quebec labour standards and company policies
- Compliance with the CNESST
Qualifications
- 5+ years of HR experience, ideally in a small to mid-sized organization
- Matrix experience a bonus
- Experience acting as the sole or lead HR contact for a site or business unit
- Strong employee relations and manager coaching skills
- Knowledge of Quebec employment laws and HR practices
- Comfortable working independently with remote leadership support
- Clear communicator with a practical, people-focused approach
- Education & Certification
- Degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field
- CRHA / CHRP designation is an bonus but not a requirement.
- Bilingual (French and English), spoken and written
