HR Generalist

Halifax, NS

Hybrid (2-3 days a week in office)

 

About the Role

We are looking for an HR Generalist to support our Head of HR and national HR team by delivering high quality HR operational and administrative services. This role plays a key part in supporting business growth by managing payroll, benefits, onboarding, HR systems, recruitment coordination, and employee lifecycle processes. You will work closely with employees and leaders to ensure HR programs are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with employment standards.

Responsibilities

HR Operations & Administration

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data
  • Prepare new hire and termination documentation
  • Manage confidential employee files and HR documentation
  • Support HR reporting and compliance tracking

Payroll & Benefits

  • Execute monthly payroll processing and validate payroll data
  • Administer employee benefits including enrolments, life events, and terminations
  • Educate employees on benefits coverage
  • Coordinate with payroll and benefits providers
  • Review payroll and benefits invoices

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Source and screen candidates
  • Coordinate interviews and hiring administration
  • Support job postings and offer documentation
  • Lead onboarding and orientation processes
  • Prepare new hire system access and documentation

Employee Support & Engagement

  • Support employee relations activities
  • Assist with performance management and development processes
  • Maintain regular communication with employees
  • Support wellness and engagement initiatives

Compliance & Policy Support

  • Support compliance with Canadian employment standards
  • Assist with occupational health and safety documentation
  • Coach managers on HR policies and procedures
  • Liaise with external payroll and legal partners as needed

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • Knowledge of Canadian employment standards and HR best practices
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Adaptable, flexible, and service-oriented mindset
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (HRIS experience is an asset)
  • English required; French is an asset
